If, as a player, you are faced with illness or a serious injury that makes it questionable whether you will be able to play football, there is a lot at stake.
Although you are financially protected by the Dutch CAO until the end of your contract, as a player you are obliged to cooperate in a possible reintegration. If you have not recovered after 104 weeks, you will face a so-called WIA assessment. You then also have to start working to find other work.
A lot of things will then come your way. Questions such as ‘What kind of work?’ and ‘What do I mean by suitable work?’ will then have to be answered. There is also a lack of clarity about what is expected of the club and the player when the contract expires and the player is not yet fit for work.
Not following the rules properly can have far-reaching financial consequences for the (former) player. As practice regularly shows that at clubs the knowledge and experience in these areas are far from sufficient, the VVCS has decided to set up a professional guidance service for its members.
Whether it concerns the above text, or whether you have other questions, do not hesitate and call the VVCS office (023-5546930) or send an email to info@vvcs.nl.
